January 7-10

Welcome to the NEW YEAR! It was wonderful seeing all children after a long and restful break.

Reminders:
Report cards went home yesterday. Please sign and return the envelope as soon as you can.

Home Reading was sent home on Tuesday and is due on Monday.

Wednesday January 15 is HAT DAY! Be creative and have fun!

Book orders are due next Friday

Pizza forms were sent home today. Please send them back to school by the due date if you are ordering.

With the cold weather approaching, please ensure students are dressed for the weather; unless it is -19 or below, students will go out at lunch time

Highlights this week:

Math
This week we reviewed 2 and 3 digit addition using our "Break Apart" strategy in the pictures below. We used "numberless" word problems and learned the importance of reading and identifying relevant information in math questions. Students also reviewed estimating and rounding to the nearest ten/hundred using 2 and 3 digit addition with a number line (if needed).

Language Arts
Fact or opinion?! We began this week continuing with persuasive writing and focusing on the different between research that is fact and true vs. opinions that are thoughts that can be argued. We read a book called, "Duck Rabbit," that thoroughly made students ponder the difference between the animals.

Inquiry
After reviewing quality of life and needs and wants, students began learning about the rights of children all over the world. Ask your child what rights children are supposed to have equally around the world.

Stay warm and enjoy the weekend!
