January 27-30

Reminders:
There is no school tomorrow due to PD day.
Scholastic book orders and home reading are both due Friday February 7, 2020.

Students are welcome to bring a Valentine for every child in the classroom. Math:
This week we continued to use number lines to solve 3 digit subtraction questions.
This strategy will help students with building their mental math skills. Other strategies we have learned in class are:
1. Draw regrouping blocks
2. Number line
3. Vertical subtraction
4. Break apart (decomposition)
5. Hundred, Tens, Ones chart
6. Thousands chart

Language Arts:
We continued to develop our persuasive writing through the use of strong adjectives. We also reviewed the sounds "ch, ou, th, ir, er, ur, ou, ow and sh." AMA what inferring means.

Inquiry:
We took our jot notes and began writing our persuasive paragraphs. We will continue this next week. During read aloud we are learning about the life of a child activist named Malala. AMA how her right to education and freedom was taken away.

Art:
This week we focused the artist books and techniques of Barbara Reid. We practiced using plasticine to make clouds, background, grass and people.

Health:
We looked at the words inspiration and goal setting when discussing the life and positive things Kobe Bryant and Malala did and have achieved.
