It has been a COLD week and students still have been happy to come to school!
Home reading is due Monday.
If students want to play a math game called Prodigy at home, they are more than welcome to! There is a link on this blog.
Here are the highlights from this week:
Math
Students began exploring 2 and 3 digit subtraction using place value mats and base 10 blocks. A really good link to practice is http://www.learnalberta.ca/content/memg/division01/base%20ten%20blocks/index.html
This shows the regrouping/borrowing. Please see the pictures below to see the different strategies students learned.
Language Arts
We started to explore persuasive writing more this week. As a class, we composed a persuasive piece of writing that included introduction, reason1, example 1, reason 2, example 2, reason 3, example 3 and a conclusion.
When reading, students focused on the following letters sounds: th, ar, sh, er, ir, ur, ow, ou
Inquiry
Students learned that children all over the world have rights but with these rights come responsibilities. See the example in the picture below.
